“Eat at Joe’s” is a running joke on Looney Tunes and various cartoon studios, so I just couldn’t resist making the connection when I started seeing Forbes and many other news magazines and organizations reporting on the horrible sanitation rating one of President Trump’s golf clubs was given.
They say there’s no such thing as “bad publicity,” but…
It took a month for it to hit the news, but Trump’s Bedminster, New Jersey Golf Club scored 32 out of 100 on a Somerset County Health inspection on May 6.
The golf club received, by nearly 30 points, the lowest score of 115 retail eating establishments inspected in Somerset County in May.
Between having expired milk and raw meat stored at 50 degrees F. instead of the required 41 degrees, it’s a wonder people haven’t died of food poisoning.
Half of the 18 health violations in the report were deemed “critical.”
Ironically, three hours after the Forbes article (https://www.forbes.com/sites/zacheverson/2025/06/04/trump-health-inspection-violations-golf-club-bedminster/) was published at 8:49 a.m. on June 4, inspectors made a reinspection at the golf club and managed to upgrade the restaurant to 86 out of 100, which is the threshold for obtaining a “B” sanitation rating.
How many of Trump’s rich friends did not feel well after eating there? “It must have been something I ate.”
I would not knowingly eat at a restaurant with less than an “A” sanitation rating. I’m glad I’m not rich enough to eat at a Trump golf club.
Something to cringe about
If this isn’t cringe-worthy, I don’t know what is.
President Trump says he is going to have a new ballroom built at the White House. He claims US Presidents have wanted it for 150 years, but he is the first one who knew how to build it.
If it is half as gaudy as what he has done to the Oval Office, I don’t want to see it. On Truth Social he wrote on June 6 that it “will be compliments of a man known as Donald J. Trump….”
I wouldn’t want to be the contractor, because Trump is known for stiffing the people he owes money.
I sort of wonder about people who speak of themselves using their full names, but I digress.
Something to smile about
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man who was shipped off to a prison in El Salvador by the Trump Administration by mistake has been returned to the United States to stand trial.
That’s what should have happened before he was sent to prison.
The US Department of Justice is now charging him with human trafficking, according to US Attorney General Pam Bondi.
According to US President Donald Trump on Air Force One yesterday, Kilmar Abrego Garcia “is a terrible person.”
Now, we’ll see if someone labeled “a terrible person” by the US President can get a fair trial. As Americans, that is all we wanted for him. That’s all I would want for myself if I were accused of a crime.
It is a relief to know that, to some degree, we are still a country of laws.
Something to laugh about
After having nothing to laugh about since January 20, President Trump and Elon Musk gave us plenty to laugh about on Thursday. Nothing like fighting in public! It was bound to happen sooner or later. Stay tuned, everybody!
Until my next blog post
Enjoy your weekend. Be careful where you eat!

Don’t forget the people of Ukraine and western North Carolina.
Janet

Janet, those are phenomenal things to smile and to laugh about for sure. Hope you enjoy a terrific weekend! It is already summer in my portion of the Mediterranean coast with sun and warming temperatures, but still quite breezy and very comfortable. All the best!

If the golf club kitchen sanitation was that mad, it makes me wonder about the kitchen staff.

It sounds like they’re operating out of pure ignorance… and probably making less than minimum wage? One has to wonder what’s going on there.

Thanks for the update on Kilmar Abrego Garcia. I have been so worried about him and his family. This “administrative mistake” was much more than that, quite calculated as a test case

You’re welcome, Rebecca. I feared he would be left to die in that prison. The people who don’t think he deserves due process need to realize that due process could be withheld from them tomorrow.

I worried that too, Janet. But I’m afraid it is more sinister than that. I’m afraid he’ll be “proven” guilty with trumped up evidence so people will dismiss the next deportations or imprisonments as justified.

I fear the same thing for him and our judicial system, Rebecca. Since he has already been judged by Pam Bondi and Donald Trump, he can’t get a fair trial. I hope he has a very good lawyer. it’s daunting to go up against the United States even in the best of times. Going up against Trump’s Department of Justice can be bad for one’s career and health, if you know what I mean. They set out to make an example of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, and I’m sure now they will double down on him. I’ve watched what is happening in Los Angeles yesterday and today in horror. Were ICE agents trained in North Korea? Why don’t they just go ahead and wear white hoods instead of face masks?

Seems like the Napoleonic Code has come into play, having to prove one’s innocence.

Yes, guilty until proven innocent. We are in a very bad place. And tonight Hegseth has gone off the rails putting the Marines at Camp Pendleton on high alert. I swear… if they send active duty Marines to the streets of Los Angeles…! It’s midnight. I’m going to bed and hope to get some sleep. Geez! All because people are protesting the way ICE is arresting people.

No doubt it was a witch-hunt by the sanitation inspectors! They’re all crazy leftie Dems with TDS! No kitchen has ever been cleaner than his kitchens – they’re the cleanest kitchens in the world!
Haha, the Musk thing was hilarious. I’m so sorry it seems to have died down, but I doubt Musk will be able to keep quiet for long. And it seems to have given some of the spineless people in Congress and the Senate a bit of courage to speak out about the Big Ugly Bill.
It’s being reported in the British press today that the arrangements for the State Visit are causing issues, because Trump wants Buckingham Palace, which is closed for renovations, and to be driven along the Mall in the State Coach, which unsurprisingly doesn’t have bullet-proof windows, having been built in 1762! I say let him… 😉

Yes, he’s already saying the kitchen inspection was a set-up. LOL!
I was surprised the fight with Musk died down so quickly. Trump is usually like a dog with a bone when he is mad with someone. It has made for some interesting political conversations and comments from members of Congress. People are inundating Senators’ office with calls and emails. I pray it makes a difference, but I’m not holding my breath.
Thank for the update on Trump’s State Visit. I haven’t heard anything about it lately over here. That’s so funny. He thinks King Charles will let him stay at Buckingham Palace regardless of its state of renovations. LOL! And I vote for the State Coach, too! (Just learning that he wants to ride in the State Coach has made my day!) He’ll probably have a golden coach built just so he can keep up with the Royal Family. I’m reading this weekend that he wants a rush job done on converting the Flying Palace to an Air Force One. I read that he said they could skip some of the security features to speed things up. It seems he’s afraid the conversion won’t be completed while he’s still President. He’s afraid he won’t get to ride in it. That’s odd, since he plans to be President for life, and he’s taking the plane with him when he leaves. I’m encouraged by the protests against ICE in Los Angeles, but not happy that Trump bypassed Gov. Newsome by sending the National Guard. State Governors call up the National Guard in emergencies, but Trump’s people found some obscure law that lets the President do it. I’m even more horrified that Defense Secretary Hegseth is threatening to send active-duty US Marines to Los Angeles to put down the violence! Until this year, I thought we could depend on the US military to refuse such an order, but I don’t think we can count on that now. Turning the US military on US citizens is unthinkable! People are getting sick and tired of the way ICE is operating. We need protests in places in addition to Los Angeles.

True! Our electricity was off due equipment damage for seven hours. Horrified when CNN came back on at 8:30 to see DOD called up 700 US Marines! Horrifying! I think Trump wishes all the protesters dead. He is loving this confrontation and show of power.

You’re a hoot, Pat! Sorry to be a couple of days getting back to you. My sister and I went to the mountains to do what we could to support some small businesses hit hard by Hurricane Helene. Just got home tonight. I’ll blog a little about our trip when I get my thoughts and photos organized. We’re having a thunderstorm right now, so I should probably unplug my computer. I hope you’re doing well. It was nice to have three days to only catch the news at night. We spent the days driving around, patronizing small restaurants and shops and listening to music CDs in the car. That was nice, although some of the scenery we saw was so sad. More later…

It was a worthwhile diversion, Pat. It really was. Today was the most rewarding of the three days. I’m so glad we got to go. By the way, I deviated from my plans (which I rarely do on a trip!) and continued up NC–194 from Lansing in Ashe County and took it to US-58 in Grayson County, VA to Independence. We saw a lot of hurricane damage on that route, too, of course. Very sad. I cannot imagine what so many people have had to face since September 26, and for some there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. We saw houses completely destroyed. And we couldn’t even go into the worst areas where the roads are still closed. And the scars on the landscape will take generations to heal. We know that from the scars on some of the trees in our yard from Hurricane Hugo in 1989, and we just had 80 mph wind. We had almost no rain. I can’t imagine 30 inches of rain and hurricane or tropical storm force wind.
