Donald Trump boasts of surrounding himself with only the best people. It seems that some of the best people accidentally left seven pages of plans for last Friday’s meeting with Russia’s President Putin on a public copy machine at the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage.
I read that the pages detailed plans for the day, the lunch menu (which wasn’t eaten), how to pronounce the Russian President’s last name, and that Trump was giving Putin an “American Bald Eagle Desk Statue.” Just what a Russian dictator wishes for!
It was reported that three hotel guests found the papers on the photocopier, but the White House said there was not a breach of security. Maybe not this time.
And then there’s Laura Loomer
A United States President is free to take advice from whomever he chooses. It is a sign of intelligence to seek advice from a variety of sources – even sources with whom one disagrees.
Trump, on the other hand, only takes advice from people who think just like he does. One of his advisors is political activist and conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer.
You may recall my mention of Loomer in my August 7, 2025, blog post, Speak Up For Justice.
All Loomer has to do is say, “Fire _____” and they’re fired. All she has to do is say, “Eliminate ____ “ and it gets eliminated.
Loomer’s measure for whether a federal government employee should keep their job or whether a member of the military should be recognized for valor on the battlefield is an easy watermark: Are they loyal to Donald Trump?
Yet, Loomer is a private citizen. She holds no public office or official capacity from which she should have access to or influence over the President of the United States.
Loomer now wants Florent Groberg, who suffered catastrophic injuries saving the lives of fellow soldiers targeted by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan stripped of his Medal of Honor because Dan Driscoll, while Secretary of the Army, allowed Groberg to be recognized as a past recipient of the Medal of Honor.
Her argument? Florent Groberg was not born in the United States and he dared to speak, as a private citizen, at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
It is apparently beside the point that Florent Groberg served with valor on the battlefield in Afghanistan. He suffered catastrophic injuries while saving the lives of fellow soldiers who were targeted by a suicide bomber.
These people must work around the clock trying to find someone to bash. What a sad life they lead!
It seems Trump and his ilk support the people in our military as long as they were born in the United States and vote Republican.
Never before in our history have we seen coming from the White House such hypocrisy and blatant political discrimination against people in uniform. It is especially rich coming from a U.S. President who dodged the draft during the Vietnam War. And, as far as I can determine, Laura Loomer never served in the U.S. military either.
It is dangerous for a man whose opinions are so easily swayed to be taking advice from an avowed conspiracy theorist.
Just my opinion.
Janet

People like her represent the viruses that abound in the world, harmful, spiteful and hateful, yet, many of his followers say they are good Christians! Hmmm… I wonder why they have such an idea?

A president who only listens to blind loyalty and judges war heroes on politics or birthplace undermines democracy itself. Dangerous for the US – and the world.

He is such a shallow man. Last Friday’s meeting with Putin went just as I expected. All Putin had to do was flatter him. I knew it was going to happen. And now Trump is taking election advice from Putin??? He plans to issue an Executive Order to abolish mail-in voting. We no longer are a nation of laws; we are a nation of Presidential Executive Orders and whims driven by the wind and a level of hate I can’t get my mind around. Meanwhile, Congress took a five-week vacation. I was so glad Europe came to the White House yesterday to support Ukraine! Too many of the European leaders, though, bend a knee to POTUS. What is this spell he has over people???? I don’t understand the attraction. I think he and Putin together think they can rule the world. Is that where this is going?

The level of influence she has is mind-boggling. It reminds me of the Kardashians. They are famous for being famous. Somehow, Loomer was able to situate herself in the same category with no credentials.

Trump is dragging not only America but the entire world into the abyss at breakneck speed. He’s doing it hand in hand with Putin. And the European leaders? They cower behind him in fear. Without the U.S., Europe is weak – powerless against Russia.
And then there’s this absurd talk here: learn Russian, move to New Zealand, or arm ourselves to the teeth. Well, the last one is already happening – and we’re paying the price with cutbacks, extra taxes, and a society paralyzed by fear.
It’s not admiration or attraction to Trump; it’s sheer fear of his whims and his utter unpredictability. And if no one stops him, Moscow and Washington will decide our fate.

I’m afraid you are right on all counts. I really hate to hear of the level of fear that exists in The Netherlands. That is something we are not hearing about here. Sadly, our journalists are too wrapped up in the daily threats and decrees coming from the White House that they no longer report on anything else. They dwell on one or two things and don’t mention the others. They hardly mention the war in Ukraine now and Gaza gets mentioned only rarely. We cannot believe a single word uttered by the Trump Administration, and we have to carefully choose which news organizations and reporters we listen to. That’s why I have to search online for tidbits of news. More and more, though, I don’t know which sources to believe. Too many Americans are blissfully unaware of the big picture. They are relying on the old rules and safeguards to keep our lives the way they’ve always been. They don’t listen to the news. They didn’t bother to vote last November. They think we’ll keep having fair elections because we always have. They don’t realize we have become a Third World country when it comes to politics. If Trump and his ilk have their way, we will become a Third World country in education, science, and medicine. What took 249 years to establish can apparently be wiped away in the blink of an eye. Our warnings about parallels to Nazi Germany are falling on deaf ears. We thought it couldn’t happen here. My friend in Australia is telling me to move to Canada. I wish I could.

I guess we have both long-term looming problem with the demise of our Constitutional freedoms and an immediate Loomering problem by a conspiracy theorist with open access to the President, if not reality.

Thanks, Janet. This too will pass, but it sure could use an enema to hasten it along.

Good point. The 1000 year Reich lasted about 12 years. Hope this one is over by 2028.
