It is heartbreaking to have to write about the state of things in the United States. If you are reading this in another country, it must be confusing. Trust me, most Americans are just as confused as you are.
U.S. Government Shutdown
The Republicans blame the Democrats. The Democrats blame the Republicans. But in 2011, Donald J. Trump said if the federal government shutdown, it would be the fault of the President of the United States.
Thousands of federal employees are in limbo. Thousands of others, like air traffic controllers, are expected to continue to work without pay. I seem to recall a Trump slogan: “Make America Safe Again.” Do you feel safe yet?
Trumpβs tariffs have hung the American farmer out to dry. Between abruptly ending USAID and getting in a tariff war with China, the soybean market has all but disappeared.
No one in the White House or the U.S. Congress appears to care if thousands of farmers lose everything they have while the political games play out.
Every single American depends on the American farmers every single day. Where does Trump think we will get our food after all the farmers go bankrupt? They cannot bounce back from bankruptcy like he has. He does not have a clue what a farm is or how it functions.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi please the audience of one she was performing for yesterday before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, but I donβt think she impressed the nation.
If the majority of Americans thought she behaved professionally, then we are in deeper trouble than I thought.
It was a horrible display of sarcasm and dodging every question. She is the poster girl for RUDE.
The FBI, Southern Poverty Law Center, & Anti-Defamation League
The Associated Press reported: βFBI Director Kash Patel says the bureau is cutting ties with two organizations that for decades have tracked domestic extremism and racial and religious bias, a move that follows complaints about the groups from some conservatives and prominent allies of President Donald Trump.
βPatel said Friday that the FBI would sever its relationship with the Southern Poverty Center, asserting that the organization had been turned into a βpartisan smear machineβ and criticizing it for its use of a βhate mapβ that documents alleged anti-government and hate groups inside the United States. A statement earlier in the week from Patel said the FBI would end ties with the Anti-Defamation League, a prominent Jewish advocacy organization that fights antisemitism.β
I found it odd that the Trump Administration is cutting ties with the Anti-Defamation League while simultaneously punishing universities it claims are discriminating against Jewish students. It appears that the U.S. Department of Justice canβt decide whether to help Jewish people or persecute them. As President Trump often says, βWeβll have to wait and see.β
The FBI has worked in partnership with prominent civil rights groups for decades, but I guess Kash Patel doesnβt want any part of it. Or, perhaps heβs just following Trumpβs orders. The Southern Poverty Center and the Anti-Defamation League have provided research on hate crimes and domestic extremism to the FBI in the past, but it seems some conservatives think they are not fair.
Meanwhile⦠President Trump breaks the law by sending the Texas National Guard to Chicago, uninvited and unwanted
Trump is also talking about invoking the Insurrection Act. Funny how he did not invoke it or even call up the National Guard on January 6, 2021, when The Capitol was under siege by his angry mob.
In the last four days, Trump has called Democrats βgnats,β βlow IQ people,β and βSomalians.β I guess he got tired calling us βthe enemy of the peopleβ and βleft-wing lunatics.β
Students of history, can you name a dictator from Germany who used those same tactics in the 1930s to dehumanize the citizens?

I am not quite sure how to feel about characterizing “Somalians” as a derogatory description. And by the way what and who are Somalians?
Might it be he meant Somalis “an ethnic group native to the Horn of Africa, predominantly inhabiting Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Kenya, with a large global diaspora?” If so, why so?

Thank you for your comment. I think the reason is the word just popped into his head, and he felt like he could use it as a derogatory term against the Democrats in the United States. It reflects his ignorance of Africa in general. He delights in calling people names. It is not normal behavior for an adult but, unfortunately, he won the election last November. Please do not think most Americans agree with him or see the world like he sees it. I pray the current dark days in our history will pass and that we will come out of this era and be able to re-establish our place in the world as a nation of freedom and hope.

He could be the poster boy for racism! He is so full of white privilege… I don’t even know how to finish this sentence!

I want to know if half our population is totally ignorant of 20th century history or if they just don’t care what happens to us. I have learned that more people than I ever would have guessed honestly agree with everything he says. That has been one of the saddest things in this whole ordeal. Too many “good people” aren’t as good as I thought they were. It is beyond disheartening. When TACO is gone, they will still be among us.

Janet, sometimes there are no words to define sheer madness, insensitivity, and ignorance. It astounds me how people do not see that this does not represent a “true” statesman and dignified leader. But it also reminds me that such supporters embody the same type of racist attitudes that he spews out so liberally. It’s truly sad. But may we continue to focus our sights and energy toward keeping ourselves “great!” ππππΌ

Kym, you hit the nail on the head when you said, “sheer madness.” It astounds me how so many people are so very misguided and misinformed that they follow him. I worry about the young people who are now reaching adulthood and they think this is normal behavior for a president. That is frightening! I used to be polite, but now when I hear someone make a racial slur I interrupt them and tell them how wrong it is for them to say or think such things. Fortunately, the people I hang with don’t talk like that, but I was in a small group recently with a cousin of mine. He said something that embarrassed everyone else in the group. I was the only one who spoke up and said, “That’s not funny! That’s ugly and wrong!” He, of course, acted like he didn’t hear me, but I think everyone else did. At 72, I don’t care what people think of me anymore. I’m speaking up! Right is right and wrong is wrong. For too long we polite Southern women have been too quiet and polite… and look where it got us!

Guuuurrrlllll Janet, amen to all of what you said, especially about us polite southern belles! π Playing by the rules seems to be obsolete and boring nowadays. But honey, us Boomers, especially us women, are speaking out bolder than we ever have. We are tired Janet, just sick and tired of being sick and tired.
It is appalling how folks have comfortably normalized blatant disgust that they know is wrong. Yet, that man will turn on his own kids like a hot potato and could care less. I am concerned about our young folks too girlfriend. But we can do what we can and let “our” voices continue to resonate with decency, dignity, and honor! πππΌπ

You’re right, Kym. We can keep on doing what we’re doing even though we are truly sick and tired or being sick and tired. Somebody needs to be the role models for the young folk. I guess it might as well be us!
