I couldn’t help myself…

I ended yesterday’s blog post with “Until my next blog post, which I hope won’t be until next week…,” but here I am posting again today.

I could write 1,000 words about today’s topic, but I’ll just stop with the following 168 words.

Harvard University

Yesterday, US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem informed Harvard University that it can no long accept international students unless it meets all the Trump Administration’s demands in 72 hours.

One of those demands to for the university to give Noem films of all student protests that have taken place over the last five years.

International students make up 27% of the undergraduate and graduate student body of Harvard. That’s more than 7,000 students who now must transfer to another university or go home.

Under the guise of punishing Harvard’s leadership for not punishing antisemitic activity, Trump is going out of his way to hurt not only the international students but all the students, faculty, and the ideals of higher education in the United States.

This is not technically blackmail under US law because Trump is not demanding money from Harvard, but I do believe it meets the spirit of the law.

Other words that come to mind are extortion and coercion.

Or perhaps exaction.

Until my next blog post

Let’s all just try to have a peaceful weekend, as Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer in the United States.

  1. When are the Jewish people going to realize he doesn’t care about them? He doesn’t know the difference between a Jew and a Christian, and he doesn’t give a flip about either group. He has turned the Office of the President into a blood sport.

  2. Yes! He’s so afraid of smart women, I’m surprised he hasn’t banned them from colleges yet. Perhaps before the start of fall semester he can take care of that little problem. When he said, “I love the uneducated,” it’s probably the only thing he’s ever said that wasn’t a lie.

  3. Yes, and I know some of them. I’m related to one who claims being “self-taught” is far superior to going to college. It’s also a good way to never be exposed to ideas you don’t already agree with.

  4. There’s a rumour doing the rounds on social media that he’s got it in for the Ivy League universities because Barron Trump was rejected by Harvard. I’ve tried to check whether that’s true or false, but haven’t been able to find any definitive evidence one way or the other. So it may be a conspiracy theory, but I found it an interesting thought that wouldn’t be out of character for him.

  5. The same rumors are floating around here, too. There’s even a rumor that Trump himself didn’t get into Harvard. I can’t seem to find anything definitive about either rumor. My go-to source of such things is snopes.com. Here’s the link to the rumor about Barron: https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/04/21/columbia-harvard-stanford-barron-trump/. Snopes can’t get to the truth of it either. My hunch is if it isn’t true, Trump would be all over social media and Fox News saying it’s not true. I used to feel sorry for Barron. As a child and teen, he always looked miserable. Having parents like his, who wouldn’t be? But now that he’s a young adult, he can choose his own path and I just pray it isn’t politics. Overnight, Trump demanded the names and home countries of all the international students at Harvard. He’s like a dog with a bone. He’s not going to stop with Harvard, though. His is a war against higher education.
