Demolition of East Wing of White House

This is what the United States Liar-in-Chief said in July about the construction of his $250 million 90,000-square-foot ballroom at the White House: “It won’t interfere with the current building…. It’ll be near it but not touching it — and pays total respect to the existing building, which I’m the biggest fan of.”

The demolition of the East Wing of the White House started yesterday.

In my search at 7:30 last night for a photograph of the East Wing that was in the public domain so I could share it on my blog, I ended up looking at what Wikipedia had to say about . (By the way, I didn’t find a photo I had the right to use.) I discovered that Wikipedia’s page about the East Wing had already been updates. It was worded in the past tense, as follows:

“The East Wing of the White House was a two-story structure that served as office space for the first lady and her staff, including the White House social secretary, White House Graphics and Calligraphy Office and correspondence staff. On the ground floor, the East Wing included the visitors’ entrance and the East Colonade, a corridor connecting the body of the East Wing to the Executive Residence. Along the corridor was the White House theater, also called the family theater….”

The East Wing of the White House was completed in 1942 to cover the underground Presidential Emergency Operations Center.

I have no words.

Well, actually, I have a lot of words, but I cannot put most of them in print.

Can anyone say, “Madman” or “Dictator?”

Trump has accomplished what the terrorists on September 11, 2001, were prevented from doing.

In case you think this cannot possibly be true, please check out the photographs and reports from six online news resources:

  1. Can he really do that? Apparently so. He’s allowed to do anything…
A mad dictator — and that’s putting it mildly.
P.S. Sorry for my absence here on your blog. I’m currently traveling in France for a month, so I haven’t been around much.

  2. Thank you, Tangie. At 72, I guess I’ve reached an age at which I’m ready to say what I think and let the chips fall where they may. Thank you!

  3. I’ve been missing you, Matroos, so I’m glad to know that you are all right and (hopefully) having a wonderful trip! If you had asked me 48 hours ago if a U.S. President could order a backhoe to knock down the East Wing of the White House, I wouldn’t have thought even Trump would do such a thing. I literally stood and walked to stand in front of the television with my mouth hanging open when I first saw the news. Seeing the photographs again tonight, it still does not seem possible. There is absolutely nothing he won’t do to destroy us. He lies when it would be easier to tell the truth. I didn’t know it was possible for a U.S. President to not only have such little regard for the American people but to apparently hate us this much. The White House is “the People’s House,” not his. It was supposedly protected as an historic property, but that did not stop him from demolishing it. I’m running out of words to express how much I loath him. I believe it is a sin to hate someone, but he is pushing many of us to our limits. Enjoy the rest of your trip! I hope you are having wonderful weather and seeing all the wonderful sights! Thank you for taking time out to read my blog and comment.

  4. Indeed! Why, oh, why? I was away from the news all day today, but tonight it seems that no one in a position of power is saying anything about it. Does no one in Congress have righteous indignation over anything? My parents are, no doubt, spinning in their graves. I loath the orange man.

  5. I can’t believe he is building a $250 million ballroom while federal employees are going without pay and being fired on his whim. I can’t believe he’s going to import beef from Argentina to bring down the cost of beef… which is such a slap in the face of the American farmer. I went to the supermarket today and I can’t believe how little I brought home for $97. At least I had $97 in the bank. I don’t know what federal employees are supposed to do, especially when both husband and wife are employed by the federal government.

  6. Really sad. What bothers me the most is all the talk about cutting the budget by defunding international aid and health care, among other things, yet suddenly we have millions of dollars to build a ballroom, fund costly homeland security ads, and provide additional protections for congressional politicians. Because tariffs are affecting farmers, the president is about to send $10 billion to help them. Genius! 👎🏼

  7. Yes, Edward. I still think every day about the damage being done by the elimination of USAID. Millions of people will die because of that, but the president couldn’t care less. That ballroom will be as hideously gaudy as the current Oval Office. The price and the story of who will pay for it changes daily. Even if donors pay for it, the US taxpayer will have to pay for its maintenance forever. I hope the farmers (and a lot of other people) are learning not to trust the Republicans. I live in NC. Our wonderful legislature today voted to redraw the Congressional districts, so now the Republicans will have 11 of our 14 districts instead of the 10 they had yesterday. And the Governor can’t veto this. We’re stuck with it until they can figure out how to take the other three districts away from the Democrats. Trump got less than 51% of the votes in NC in the general election, but he has 79% of our support in the House and 100% of our support in the Senate. Isn’t bizarre that we elected Democrats last November for Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General?

  8. Horrible situation. I’m an independent voter, but I can tell you that the messaging coming from the Democratic Party is not the best right now. They have very little time to find a solid strategy and refine their message if they want to win in 2026. In my opinion, they need to return to the center or center-left.
